Hindi NAATI CCL Preparation: Vocabulary and Practice Tips
Hindi is one of the most popular languages for the NAATI CCL test — which also means the standard expected is well established. This guide covers what to focus on when preparing for the Hindi CCL test specifically.

Register: the Hindi-specific challenge
The biggest Hindi-specific issue is register — knowing when to use formal (आप) versus informal address, and balancing everyday Hindi with the more Sanskritised or Urdu-influenced vocabulary that appears in official contexts.
In the exam, aim for natural, widely-understood Hindi. Don't over-formalise to the point of sounding unnatural, but don't drop into casual speech either. Match the tone of the speaker.
High-value vocabulary areas
Focus your vocabulary building on the domains that appear most often:
- Healthcare — symptoms (लक्षण), prescription (नुस्खा / दवा का पर्चा), dosage (खुराक), appointment (अपॉइंटमेंट / समय)
- Legal & government — application (आवेदन), documents (दस्तावेज़), eligibility (पात्रता), consent (सहमति)
- Banking & finance — account (खाता), interest (ब्याज), loan (ऋण / कर्ज़), instalment (किस्त)
- Education & community — enrolment (दाखिला), guardian (अभिभावक), scholarship (छात्रवृत्ति)
Common Hindi CCL pitfalls
- Code-mixing — dropping in English words when the Hindi term is expected (or vice versa). Know both.
- Number rendering — Hindi numbers (especially large ones and dates) are a frequent source of omissions and errors.
- Losing detail in longer segments — Hindi interpretations can run longer than the English source; stay complete without padding.
How to practise Hindi CCL effectively
Reading these tips helps, but marks come from speaking practice. Practise interpreting realistic Hindi–English dialogues out loud, and get feedback on what you omit or mistranslate.
